Each year the Colonial Society sponsors an annual workshop in
early American history for teachers in eastern Massachusetts and
adjoining states. The workshop is designed to keep teachers abreast
with the latest scholarship. Speakers, generally drawn from the
Colonial Society's own membership, engage teachers in a discussion
of new research and may make suggestions about reading or primary
sources. We assume that teachers themselves are the experts best
equipped to adapt this information for their own students, so
neither lesson plans nor curricula are the focus of these discussions.
The workshops are held at the Society's headquarters at 87 Mount
Vernon Street on Beacon Hill, and teachers are guests of the society
for a light luncheon. Over the years, we have developed a rich
mix of teachers from public, private, and parochial schools around
Boston, including both elementary and secondary school teachers,
all of whom meet on equal and friendly terms with our presenters.
If you would like to be included on the mailing list for future
workshops, please email the following registration form.
