A Calendar of the Correspondence of

    Thomas Hutchinson

    November 1770–June 1772

This calendar of letters contains citations for every letter written to or from Thomas Hutchinson of which the editors are aware, whether that letter has survived or not. Letters that are included in the current publication of the Correspondence of Thomas Hutchinson appear in boldfaced type with an abbreviated citation.

For those letters that are not printed in full in this volume, each reference is organized as follows: the date and place where the letter was written; the name of the correspondent; information regarding existing manuscript copies (the document version and location of the manuscript); information regarding printed versions (because many of Hutchinson’s letters have been quoted, sometimes extensively, the editors have opted to include only full printings or nearly full printings of his letters in this calendar); and a brief summary of the contents of the letter. If a letter was missing, the editors have supplied their source for the information they have.

Readers should refer to the textual introduction for more information regarding editorial policies and the various abbreviations and short titles employed in this calendar.
