MISCELLANEOUS FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS 1795 – 1800

There are two separate Overseers files contained in this section. The documents refer to charges issued to the State or to individual towns for the care of non-residents of Boston who came under the administration of the Overseers.

The first is identified as the Boston Asylum Ledger and is contained in Box 15, Folder 1 of the Overseers Records (see “Guide,” p. 19). The numbers in brackets at the left margin are the page numbers from the manuscript. The term “Asylum” was used increasingly to refer to Almshouse functions after 1800.

The second file is a list of Notifications from Admissions Register 5 in Box 11, folder 1 of the Overseers Records (see “Guide,” p.15).
