33 | To The Earl Of Halifax

    Boston Mar 3. 1761

    My Lord

Mr Pemberton the Naval officer here, intending to solicit a renewal of his commission, applied to me for my advice & assistance. This produced a conversation which ended in his proposing that my eldest son (now about going from Westminster College to Christ Church in Oxford) should be joined with him in the commission & in about 4 or 5 years hence be admitted to a share of the business & profits. This I readily agreed to but it wholly depends upon your Lordship to put it in execution. For this purpose I have sent to Mr Pownall a memorial to be laid before your Lordship at the most suitable time.192 I would be understood not to pretend to any right but thro’ your Lordships favor which, as it has been allready so far extended toward me I make my whole dependance. I am
