145 | To Jeffery Amherst

    Boston Aug 9. 1762.

    Sr.

I am favoured with yours of the 1st of Aug.570 In regard to those of our Provincials who had refused to reinlist in the provincial Service, or had inlisted into the regular Service, I had authorised Col Hoar to supply their places by recruits at Halifax & therefore I could not raise them here. I had thereupon no other to send him ^to Halifax^ but regular recruits: and accordingly despatched 18 of them by the King George 2 days before, I received your letter.571 Tho this is not agreable to your intention, yet as they have been sent there without any expence to the King & will there join a Corps of the same recruits I presume it cant occasion much inconvenience.

We are alarmed here with an account of a French privateer, cruising in the Gut of Canso, within which We have a large intrest in fishing Vessels. I am just now ordering the Province Sloop to be armed in a respectable manner & despatched there.

I am with great regard Sr Your most obedient & most humble Servant

    Fra. Bernard

    His Excellency Sr Jeffry Amherst

I beg you will excuse me enclosing a letter to Mr Stevens572 & desiring you would order it to be deliverd to Him
