72 | To Jeffery Amherst

    Boston Sep. 20. 1761

    Sr

By a return of Col Thwings Regiment, I find there are now there 1063, and there are 2 or 3 more to join. I have not as yet got returns of the other two regiments, but understand that there are above 1700 marched to Albany. The deserters I suppose are above 100 in the whole; so that I expect our deficiency will not exceed 100. It is not worth while at this time, to endeavour to make good this deficiency for this year: and I presume there are a great many more than will be wanted beyond it. I thought proper to communicate to you this state of our forces, as it now appears to me.

I am, with great regard, Sr Your most obedt humble Servant

    Fra Bernard

    His Excellency Sr Jeffry Amherst
