17 Medfield’s Response to the Appeal for Funds

    [May 14 1653]

    Medfield Inhabitants contributed towards the maintenance of the students in Harvard Colledge in New England. Forasmuch as many publiq charges have, and still doe lie uppon us who are as yett butt in the begining of our plantation, Wee humbly request acceptance of these particular underwritten small sums in the 2d month of the yeare 1655 which wee whose names here subscribed promise then to pay to that authoritie who shall call for the same, to farther so necessarie, and so great a good, as learning is, both for the Churches of the Lord, and Commonwealth.
