211 President Leverett to Treasurer White

    Cambridge July 4th, 1720

    Mr. Treasurer—

Sir I don’t use to draw upon you untill after the Commencement for the Exhibitions; but the two young men that wait on you for theirs were Sent over to me by Mr. Flynt to desire an order out of order, their occasions calling for it. I comply with their motion and his desire, but it would have bin properer for him to have Express’d his desire before you refe’rd him to me, upon his assuming to do what belong’d not to him.

Sir you wilbe pleased to pay to Hunting five pounds and Jefford £10. Their names you have in your List for so much granted to ’em at a Corporation Meeting November 16, 1719. You wil pleas to Note them so as to distinguish them if I should happen to insert their Names among the other pensioners afterwards.

    I am

    Sir Your humble servant

    J. Leverett

Corporation Papers. Nathaniel Hunting (A.B. 1722) and Samuel Jefferds (A.B. 1722) were the recipients of the grants. The fact that Tutor Flynt sent them first, and that the Treasurer had to return them to Leverett for his order, reflects the differences between President and Tutors at that time.
