382 Will of John Frizell

    [August 20 1731]

    In the Name of God Amen; I John Frizell of Boston in the County of Suffolk in New England Merchant, being of Sound Disposing Mind and Memory though under Bodily Indisposition and Considering my own frailty and Mortality, Do make this my last Will and Testament in Manner following: Vizt. First and Principally I Commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator in hopes of obtaining the forgiveness of my Sins, and Eternal Life through Jesus Christ my Redeemer and my Body I desire may be Decently interred at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter Named, in hopes of a Joyfull Resurection at the last Day; and as touching such Temporal Estate as God hath bountifully given me, I will and dispose thereof as follows That is to say, Imprimis I will that all my just Debts and Funeral Charges shall be well and truly paid by my Executors in Convenient time after my Decease. Item I give to the Colledge in Cambridge in New England the Sum of two hundred and fifty Pounds in Bills of Credit on the Province of the Massachusetts Bay to be paid into the hands of the Treasurer thereof. Item I give to the Poor of the Town of Boston aforesaid the Sum of one hundred Pounds to be Distributed among them by my Executors According to their good discretion. Item I give to the Reverend Mr. William Welstead270 of Boston aforesaid Cleric the sum of Twenty five Pounds and to the Poor of the Church whereof he is Pastor the sum of Forty Pounds to be Divided among them according to the Discretion of the Officers of the said Church. Item I give to my Honoured Aunt Mrs. Dorothy Saltonstall the sum of two hundred and fifty Pounds and also a Suit of Mourning Cloaths. Item I give a Suit of Mourning to my Honoured GrandFather Capt. Gibbert Bant. Item I give to my Honoured Mother Mrs. Jane Frizell Widow now Living in London the sum of Twenty Pounds Sterling Money of Great Brittain per annum to be paid her by my Executors Yearly during her Natural Life. Item I give to my Father in Law Mr. Benjamin Bronsdon and his Wife, and to my Uncle Mr. William Bant of Boston Merchant a Suit of Mourning Cloaths to each of them. Item I give Devise and bequeath all my Housing and Lands in Boston aforesaid and all the Residuary part of my Estate both Real and Personal wheresoever the same is lying or may be found as well in Possession as Reversion unto my Well beloved Wife Mercy Frizell and to her Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns forever. Ultima I do hereby Nominate Constitute and Appoint the said Benjamin Bronsdon, William Bant, and Mercy my Wife Executors of this my last Will and Testament, hereby Revoaking all former Wills by me made. In Testimony whereof I the said John Frizell have hereunto put my hand and Seal the Twentyeth Day of August in the fifth year of the Reign of our Soverin Lord King George the Second over Great Brittain &c. Annoq. Domini 1731. John Frizell and a Seal Signed Sealed and Delivered Published and Declared by Mr. John Frizell the Testator to be his last Will and Testament in presence of us Witnesses.

    The foregoing Will being presented for probate by the Executors therein Named Thomas Ruck and James King made Oath that they saw John Frizell the Subscriber to this Instrument Sign and Seal and heard him Publish and Declare the same to be his last Will and Testament; And that when he so did he was was of Sound Disposing Mind and Memory according to these Deponents best Discerning; And that they together with Samuel Tyley now upon the Circuit with the Superiour Judges Set to their Hands as Witnesses thereof in the said Testators presence.

    Samuel Tyley made oath that he saw John Frizell the Subscriber to this Instrument Sign and Seal and heard him Publish and Declare the same to be his last Will and Testament, and that when he so did he was of sound Disposing Mind and Memory according to this Deponents best Discerning, And that he Set to his hand as a Witness thereof in the said Testators presence together with Thomas Ruck and James King the other Subscribing Witnesses.

    Wills, Gifts, and Grants, p. 14. John Frizell (A.B. 1724) died in 1731. He was a nephew of Dorothy Saltonstall (see No. 364 for an extract of her Will), and he married Mercy Bronsdon, daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Bant) Bronsdon. The part of the Will relating to the College is quoted in CSM Publications, xvi. 852; see also Sibley, Sketches (Shipton), vii. 337–338.
