     The following Covenant at a Meeting of y^e

Church Feb. 14. 1738. was propounded by y^e Pastor

agreed upon & Consented to by y^e Brethren ~ ~

     We who thrō y^e mercy of God are Members

of y^e first Church of Christ in Rowley being Sen-

sible how dangerous it is to sit loose from the

Covenant We make with God & how apt we are

to wander into by paths even to y^e losing of our first

Aims in Entring unto Church Fellowship, do therefore

Solemnly in y^e presence of y^e Eternal God both for our

own Comforts & those who shall or may be Joyned

unto us Renew our Covenant with y^e Lord & one

with another & do bind our selves in y^e presence of God

to walk together in all his ways according as he is

pleased to reveal himself unto us in his blessed word

of Truth & do more Expicitly in y^e Name & fear

of God profess & protest to walk as followeth thrō

y^e power & grace of our Lord Jesus Christ ^{–––––––––}

     We Avouch y^e Lord to be our God & our Selves

to be his people in y^e Truth & Simplicity of our Spirits

     We give our Selves to y^e Lord Jesus Christ & y^e

word of his grace for y^e Teaching ruling & Sanctifying

of us in Matters of Worship & Conversation resolving

to Cleave to him alone for life & glory & to oppose

all Contrary ways Cannons & Constitutions of men in

his Worship. ^––
